You’ve dispatched the kids to sleepaway camp. Now is the perfect time to go under the knife.
“Summer camp is the best invention,” says Kate, a mother from New Jersey who asked that her real name not be used. “We get time to go away without the kids.” But last July, instead of jetting off to Bermuda, she got plastic surgery.
She’s not the only one. Those summer camp weeks are “the second-most popular time of year for women to schedule surgery” (after Christmas), says New York City plastic surgeon David Hidalgo. It’s the only time busy moms can get what he calls “protected” time off: no carpools, sports practices, or PTA meetings.
