What about Archie has made the biggest impression on you?

“He wants to make other people happy. Archie is constantly putting his girlfriends and his friends before himself. I think that’s pretty epic.”

You moved from New Zealand at 18. How was the transition?

“At first, I felt like an outsider—when I started on Riverdale, everyone was American or Canadian, and I was the only foreigner. But I immersed myself in the culture and got over that pretty quickly. The biggest culture shock was the accent. I’m constantly cringing at myself when I have to do an American accent.”

Archie had no qualms saying the L-word to Veronica. Are you the same way?

“I wouldn’t just dive into it like that—I don’t enjoy being vulnerable. Those words are strong, and I’m not the type to just throw them out.”

What’s a relationship lesson you’ve had to learn?

“I didn’t have many girlfriends growing up. But I think my standards were too high. There’s no way you can check all the boxes you think you need to in another person. When you have that outlook, you never really get to know anyone.”

Last year you said you weren’t looking to date. Is that still true?

“I’ve changed for sure. But that’s all I really want to say. Well, that, and I’m really happy. The thing is, I don’t think it matters whether you’re looking for a relationship or not—it’s not for us to decide when we meet the love of our lives.”

How has Betty rubbed off on you?
