Never in a million years did I think I’d work in the beauty industry. Growing up in southern California, I was always on a skateboard. I raced BMX bikes and wanted to be a pro soccer player. But I was also into art and graphic design. As a kid, I’d customize my Hot Wheels; by the time I was in high school, I was airbrushing details on cars, Jet Skis, and helmets. I also worked for my dad, a dental technician, and helping him work on crowns and bridges honed my eye for detail. I ended up going to art school, but once I was married with my first child, I knew it was time to get a real job. My cousin was making a good living cutting hair, and that inspired me to get my manicuring license and change from detailing cars to painting nails.
