I’ve been lucky enough to experience the majority of my life with a dog at my side. It all started one Christmas many years ago, when a fluffy brown-and-white Saint Bernard puppy bound into our living room, leaving a trail of newly opened toys and six overjoyed children in his wake. We were all astonished that Santa had finally given in and gotten us a dog. When the dust cleared, we named him Saint, even though that big, floppy pawed canine proved to be anything but.
