Preetika Rao, an actress, model and journalist is the sister of actress Amrita Rao. Her wish in life is to be successful in professional and personal life. After her career in modelling, she went to do film journalism in southern India. Preetika made her acting debut with the Tamil romantic film Chikku Bukku. However, She quit south movies for a diploma course in broadcast journalism from the New York Film Academy. In 2014, Rao made the transition from regional cinema to national television with the popular television serial Beintehaa aired on Colors TV. In conversation with Glittering India, she talks about her profession, passion and future.

I Chose To Follow My Heart And Not My Sister's Footsteps

Why you chose to walk in your sister’s footsteps?

I actually did not choose to follow my sister’s footsteps. I only chose to follow my heart! I wanted to become a model and I chose to follow my dreams! If I had actually followed her, I would have been in Bollywood right now as I had received several plump offers for a debut in cinema while I was modelling. But I follow my heart and started off as a model did a bit of film journalism with prestigious newspapers and finally found myself in South Indian movies. Later, I decided to work for the national market instead of getting limited to the regional one. Around that time I was getting some very big offers from television. Television is so big today that every Bollywood actor wants to be hosting, judging or become a part of it in some or the other way. So, I too chose to debut in Television on Colors with the prime time series called Beintehaa which gave me national fame and recognition.

Has your sister’s contacts in Bollywood helped you?

I am not in Bollywood yet and so my sisters contacts have never help me in the path I chose which was Television, besides I have always believed in not using her influences to get anywhere in my career. I started off as a model and carved my own path to becoming a popular Television actress today and I’m proud of it.

How your decision to transit from regional cinema to national television benefited you?
