Agile Supply Chain For Auto Industry In The Digital Age
Indian Transport & Logistics News|November – December 2017

India’s macro-economic environment is expected to benefit from the growth of the middle classes, with GDP development expected to increase steadily going forward.

Agile Supply Chain For Auto Industry In The Digital Age

Indian auto sales are expected to reach 6.1 million by 2023. Auto exports are expected to increase significantly, with North America and Western Europe the largest destination markets. A number of established OEMs already use India as a production hub including Ford, Hyundai, Renault Nissan, Suzuki, GM and VW.

The automotive industry is evolving. The pressures experienced by suppliers are altering, to which manufacturing and supply chain strategies are compelled to adapt. Supply chain balancing is pivotal in maintaining stability within a rapidly evolving automotive SCM based around single-source driven strategies.

For nearly a decade, manufacturers and logistics service providers in India have anticipated that the eventual implementation of a Goods and Service Tax (GST) would open up opportunities for ‘hub-and-spoke’ distribution patterns, including more efficient transport to dealers and the use of more multimodal transport.

But with the government giving infrastructure status to the logistics sector, development of multimodal transport networks and initiatives to set up industrial corridors and logistics parks, a massive transformation of the country’s logistics landscape is underway.
