Even as a school child, Gary Owens dreamed of working with wood. He shares vivid memories of checking out books from the library so he could learn about building furniture. Today, at the helm of Great American Farm Tables in Fulton, Owens is living his childhood dream.

“I have always had an interest in creating something people could use and could love,” Owens shares. “As a child, I knew the importance of hard work and understood it would provide much-needed income for my family. I have been so blessed to be able to do what I love and have that take care of my family needs.”

While working in the corporate world, Owens worked on his wood craft during his spare time. He juggled the demands of the job, while also caring for his disabled wife. When the 9/11 tragedy struck the heart of the nation, Owens’ corporate job was impacted, and he saw the opportunity to make a leap of faith and do what he always wanted to do: be his own boss and make beautiful furniture. He began by making custom cabinets. When someone asked him to build a custom farm table, he did so with delight. He posted the picture on social media, and the orders rolled in.
