Create A Playlist That's The Life Of The Party
Her World Singapore|December 2017

Don’t let your music become background noise. Like food, drink and decor, it’s integral to throwing a successful shindig. Eve Tan, Spotify’s Shows & Editorial Lead for Asia; and Tinc, musician and DJ, lay the ground rules for curating a playlist that works for almost any party.

Create A Playlist That's The Life Of The Party

1 GO WITH THE FLOW

Yes, there is a flow, if you want to create the right party vibes. Start the night off with melodic and soothing tunes to create a warm, inviting vibe that will ease your guests in. When everyone's warmed up and you're ready for dinner, transition into more beat-heavy music like lounge house - to get the energy up and keep things interesting. Try Bluefish's Mellow Mellow or Belladonna's Meltin' Guitar. As the night progresses and people loosen up, turn up the hip-hop and trap music to end the night on a high.

2 DONT HIT THE SHUFFLE

Your music is the heartbeat of the party. That means no shuffling or looping songs - it'll throw the mood of your playlist (and by extension, the party) out of sync. Even more crucial -have enough songs so you don't hit a wall of silence towards the end of the night. For a four-hour party, prep at least 250 songs.
