Fitness is a way of life for model-turned- actor Saiyami Kher, who wowed us with her sculpted body in her debut film Mirzya. Ask her about her gym routine and she reveals she hates going to the gym as she feels claustrophobic in confined spaces. She needs to feel the elements to be in her element and that’s why running is her favourite form of exercise. Says she, “I don’t like fixed regimes either. You should keep doing some physical activity or the other to burn calories. That’s the best way to lose weight. I do like to run. I run 10-12 kms on alternate days. When in Mumbai, I run from my home to the Bandra sealink, a good 10 kms away from my house.” She mentions that the only time she dedicatedly went to the gym was when she was prepping for Mirzya. It was a film about reincarnation and she was required to look muscular in one avatar and lean in the next. “I joined a gym and did crossfit training,” she smiles. “I also learnt kickboxing. Crossfit is basically a mix of weight training with cardio. I used to do 350 squats and eight kilometres on the rowing machine during that intense training. But it was totally worth it in the end.”

She is the brand ambassador of Adidas Running, no mean feat as it entailed running a full marathon, which is 42 kms. She always dreamt of doing it and was happy that she nailed it last year. She mentions it’s more of a mental feat than a physical one because after a point, the distance starts getting to you. You have to fight the loneliness and stay alert. “I had a bad injury during the marathon but still finished the full 42 kms. That has been my biggest achievement in life,” she claims.
