Lipstick Under My Burkha has generated a buzz in the audience like no other indie film this year. First it was the pow wow with the Censor Board and its chairman Pahlaj Nihalani given the film's bold content. And then, in contrast, it was the stellar word-of-mouth that fuelled its success at the box-office. The film’s numbers grew exponentially over its first weekend. It started off with a ₹94 lakh collections on the first day. By Sunday it had escalated to ₹1.45 crore. Better still, it held its own at the box-office on Monday and Tuesday. It’s a sign that people have loved the film. The universal acceptance is what director and writer, Alankrita Shrivastava, is happiest about. She reveals, “The audience feedback is heartwarming. It makes the effort worthwhile. Once a film is out for public consumption, it’s no longer about the filmmaker. Then it’s all about how people engage with the film. People are talking about it on blogs, on social media, outside theatres...”
