Mollifying women from sexual harassment should be the order of the day, as it cannot be denied that sexual harassment is a growing trend in organizations, be it public or private. Therefore, it shall be in the best interest of the organizations to strengthen their internal policies.

Sexual Harassment At Workplace

Sexual harassment is bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, including unwelcome gestures and sexual favours. It also includes verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Gender inequality and discrimination are firmly rooted in our country, and, it would be callow to think that corporeal buildings and lavish complexes will remain immune to such a practice.

Examples of sexual harassment

Unwanted sexual statements: Sexual, dual meaning or dirty jokes, comments on physical traits, spreading rumours or rating others as to sexual activity or performance, talking about one's sexual activeness in front of others and displaying or distributing sexually explicit drawings, pictures, videos and/or written material. Unwanted sexual statements can be made in person, in writing, electronically (email, instant messaging, blogs, web pages, etc.) etc.

Unwanted personal attention: Giving letters, telephone calls, messages, cards, gifts, visits, pressure for sexual favours, pressure for unnecessary personal interaction and pressure for dates where a sexual/romantic intent appears evident, but is unwanted.

Unwanted physical or sexual advances: Touching, hugging, kissing, fondling, touching oneself sexually for others to view, sexual assault, intercourse or other sexual activity.
