With abundant natural light and sophisticated interiors, RSA Residence in Faridabad is a sight to behold.

The location was perfect when we visited the site for the first time. Situated at the end of a road, the only traffic movement in front of the space would be the vehicles of the resident of the house. The architects Deepti Bansal and Joaquim Cleophas Rodrigues of Purple Studio realised the potential of the project early on.

The client, an entrepreneur, was interested in using the views towards the well-maintained community park in front of the house. Natural light in the entire house was to be the hallmark of the design.

The material palette for the exteriors is a harmonious blend of unsophisticated materials and technology. The materials used include natural wood, stone and metal.

Different finishes of a single material – granite articulate the texture-riddled boundary wall. In the elevation, the smooth painted finish complements the angular wedged slate clad wall. The colour palette of the exteriors keeps the house grounded to its surroundings.

For the interiors, a meticulous approach to the selection of materials has instilled a unique spatial language in each room. The play with textures and subtle colours impels the occupants’ senses to slip into a relaxed state of mind. The fabrics were carefully curated for their rich textures, complementing the interiors.

The back-lit 30-ft-tall tree silhouette for the façade went through numerous brainstorming sessions, say the architects. Decisions about the material, lighting, cutting and the final form were discussed repeatedly. ‘Several permutations were punched out as prototypes. The ratio of the punches’ size and distance between the two was critical to get the perfect viewing distance from the street.”
