How does the updated Bonnie fare on Indian roads?

Triumph Street Twin

Despite being the newest member of the family, the Triumph Street Twin is already one of the most important Bonnevilles. It has helped Triumph catch the attention of younger buyers as well, and is the highest selling model in just three years! And to keep the buzz going, Triumph recently launched the updated, 2019 version in India. The bike impressed us in Portugal earlier this year and we’ve just tested it to see how it fares on Indian roads.

I won’t harp on about the design – the 2019 model looks nearly identical to last year’s bike and changes are minor. Triumph has focussed on updating bits that matter more, like the power train and the dynamics, and the results show. The engine offers 65PS now, up from 55PS, thanks to the rev range being hiked up to 7,500rpm from 7,000rpm and a lighter crank and magnesium cam covers. Peak torque remains unchanged at 80Nm and it is available from just 3,800rpm now. Expectedly, the new bike is quicker and clocked a 0-100 kmph time of 5.5 seconds in our VBOX test as opposed to my time of 5.8 seconds on the old bike.
