Maya, Meena and Zeenat Mukhi take stories and transform them into pieces of fine jewellery. Tina Thakrar finds out how they set up their own Beirut-Based jewellery brand.
How do you wear your attitude?’ asks the Mukhi Sisters website. We posed that question to the three sisters, Maya, Meena and Zeenat Mukhi, behind the Beirut-based jewellery brand, and received some extraordinary answers.
Let’s begin with when it all started. It was 2009, and the world was introduced to Mukhi Sisters, a beautiful fine jewellery brand that had the ability to transform raw gold, precious gems and semi-precious stones into the most exquisite necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets and headpieces. Minimal, detailed and truly one-of-a-kind, these pieces were borne from the artistic ideas of the three sisters’ shared love for the finer things in life.
Mukhi Sisters is influenced by varied cultures and rich traditions, the foundation of which lies in the owners’ own background. Born to Chandru Mukhi, whose family has been in the jewellery business since 1875, and Effat Kreidie, the lady behind Effys Jewellery since 1982, the three sisters were exposed to an exotic blend of Indian and Lebanese cultures, besides of course, jewellery exhibitions, trade fairs, artisanal work and dinner table discussions about the art and science of jewellery. Today, they proudly offer what they refer to as the ‘Mukhi Experience’.
