With Its Exquisite Detailing, Sophisticated Cuts, and Deliberate Simplicity, Tania Mohan’s Hong Kong Based Label - House of Tabla Stands Out for All the Right Reasons. Amaira Chhabria Finds Out More
In the fashion circuit, fabrics, silhouettes and draping styles are constantly changing. Interestingly, there is never a dull moment. Especially when designers like Tania Mohan (who sought to redefine age-old Indian techniques in a contemporary era), create a style that is both rich in Indian aesthetic and modern sophistication. By seamlessly integrating creativity and commerce, her ethnic-chic designs are not only tasteful but also timeless.
A striking beauty with classic style sensibilities, Tania exudes determination and confidence. Having been in the industry for over 18 years now, her first stint with fashion, was as a model. She shares, “From walking the runway for local designers to being a part of the Minolta campaign in India, I was also a fit model for German brand Mondi.”
So, what made her launch her label - House of Tabla? “It happened purely by chance. Actually, I think it found me. In 1998, I was at a Louis Vuitton Party and came across someone who insisted that I open a boutique.” In less than 6 months, Tania had her very own store in the heart of central Hong Kong. Today, House of Tabla offers apparels (kaftans, jackets, dresses) and accessories (scarves, pashmina shawls, jewels).
