7 Important Life Lessons For Generation Now

1 Mind

Fitting in or standing out—is there a right way?

By Dr Zirak Marker, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and medical director of Mpower Follow these affirmations: a) It’s so much cooler to be different. b) Thinking out of the box and having an imagination will help me maximise my potential. c) As I experience different aspects of life, I will find like-minded people. d) Being different allows me to have a unique identity and makes my life more exciting and challenging. e) I can only accept others if I truly accept myself for who I really am.

2 Love

How do I negotiate love between social media and everyday life?

By Alicia Eler, culture critic, millennial expert and author of The Selfie Generation (Skyhorse Publishing, 2017)

1. Be an active listener. When your partner is talking, put away your phone and give him or her your full attention.

2. Take trips out of town for some quality time together, away from work and friends.

3. Speak up if something is on your mind. Don’t wait for your partner to bring it up. Discuss it, rather than letting it simmer below the surface.

4. Practising good boundaries is romantic, too. Decide how much time you can really dedicate to your partner rather than over-committing.

5. Text less, play with other means of communication more—mess around on Snapchat, once in a while. But overall, limit communication when you’re away from each other. That way, seeing each other in person is even more exciting!

3 Sex
