Place Vendôme, circa 1854, was home to 18th-century townhouses or hotel particuliers lived in by well-heeled aristocrats and later even future emperor Napoléon III. It was here that a young Louis Vuitton started his first boutique 163 years ago, selling sleek luggage essentials. Fast forward to present day and the new Louis Vuitton flagship store stands in place of the townhouses as a historical memoir of where it all began. In a four-year restoration project, architect Peter Marino transformed the neo-classical townhouses into a stunning sunlit space, where ready-to-wear, jewellery, watchmaking, leather goods, shoes, fragrances and artisanal workshops come alive.
