A chocolate on the pillow doesn’t make the cut any more. From special foods to music and moisturisers, the standard turn down service is getting a serious upgrade

Every hotel has a turn down service, in which housekeeping staff readies the area immediately around your bed, draws out the sheets so you can quickly tuck in and usually places a piece of chocolate on your pillow. How that practice spread across hotels and the globe is up for debate. An ofttold story attributes it to actor Cary Grant asking for chocolate to be placed by the bedside of a lady he was wooing. Whether that’s true or not, hotels are taking this service up several notches. Here’s how. Copper-charged water Guests at The Park Hyderabad (www.theparkhotels.com) are served water that’s been stored in a copper vessel. Copper is said to have beneficial properties, so this water helps balance body and mind.
