New mom to son Kingston and South African-born actress Lesley-Ann Brandt returns to our screens in the latest season of Lucifer
GQ: What can fans expect from season four?
Lesley-Ann Brandt: This season is definitely one for the fans and it’s a wild ride. All your favorite characters are going through some kind of challenge or struggle. It’s a darker, sexier version of the show they fell in love with in the first place, but we’ve really tried to up our game.
GQ: How did it feel having fans resurrect the show after its cancellation?
LB: Humbling. When you’ve been in the industry for a while, you know that cancellations are part of the business and definitely part of the TV. But being canceled by Fox was the best thing for our show because Netflix is not just a better fit, it really feels like we’re at a home where, as a show, we’re understood and embraced, quirks and all.
GQ: How do you feel when you’re playing Mazikeen?
LB: I play Mazikeen with a lot of humanity and humility. I’ve drawn on my life experiences. Maze’s attempts to make Earth feel like home, struggling to form new friendships, and just to fit in, felt a lot like my move from South Africa to New Zealand as a teenager. Much like it was for her, leaving home was hard and challenging for me, but just like Maze, I eventually found my tribe.
