WORKING at Celtic is always eventful, so when the Bhoys are away on international duty there is a rare feeling of silence surrounding the training ground.
However, talking of international football, my last column highlighted my love for the Iraqi game, in particular the national team. Despite failing to reach Russia, I still enjoy watching the Lions of Mesopotamia at every possible occasion. And a football fairytale story may well be in the making in the Middle East.
Amid a six-year civil war, Syria, in dramatic last-minute fashion, earned a play-off spot for a chance to contest an intercontinental play-off. Win both, and they would qualify for football’s biggest showpiece for the first time ever. An achievement that would match Leicester’s Premier League triumph, in my opinion, but does not quite match that of the undefeated treble-winners!
Meanwhile I continue to cheer on the Scots on the international stage. It was great being able to witness a Scotland side with six Celts keeping their nation’s World Cup hopes alive.
THE world of football is becoming more and more reliant on social media. The hottest trend of the summer was the announcement of new players in quirky fashion.
