Brendan Rodgers’ League Cup success also delivers Celtic’s 100 major trophy triumph
THE League Cup will always retain a special place in Brendan Rodgers’ heart as it was the first trophy he won as a manager and, more importantly, as Celtic manager.
The trophy success, which came after an impressive and emphatic 3-0 victory over Aberdeen in the final at Hampden, had added significance in that it was also Celtic’s 100th major honour in their long and illustrious history.
Along the way, Celtic had seen off Motherwell, Alloa Athletic and Rangers in the semi-final before beating Aberdeen in the final, and lifted the silverware without conceding a single goal.
It was an emotional Brendan Rodgers who addressed supporters outside Celtic Park following the success, which represented the first part of what would become a momentous domestic treble.
And its significance remained just as strong when the manager sat down to reflect on it with the Celtic View…
