Barefooted Champs
Chiiz|Volume 18

Every country, every continent and maybe even some islands or people living in some far away ice caves wait eagerly every four years to witness the biggest showdown on the planet- The FIFA World Cup.

Barefooted Champs

The subcontinent of India isn’t far behind when it comes to the game. Football in India has been a big deal since it was introduced by the British soldiers in the mid 19th Century. Calcutta FC was the first Indian club that was established in 1872 other than the British Clubs who initially dominated the game.

In 1911, the first big victory came our way when Mohun Bagan Athletic Club became the first Indian club to lift the IFA Shield, a league which was previously dominated by only British Clubs. Since that day, football became an integral part of every Calcuttan’s life, not to mention the entire country’s ecstasy for the most celebrated game on the planet.

The West Bengal state of India has always been known for its rich culture and diversity. This innate taste and style is reflected in their dishes too. Their cuisine is essentially. A lot of its flavours and masala mixes have been handed down from over a thousand years and Bengalis to this day retain those recipes which make them truly “shonar Bangla” dishes.
