You Can Have Lots Of Fun With VR Headsets

In a scene from Back to the Future movie series, there is a virtual reality (VR) headset that Marty wears while dinner is served on the dinner table.

He is talking to his friends, even seeing what they are seeing and is completely immersed in it. This was back in the 1980s.

VR headsets have endured a long journey from a refrigerator-sized Sensorama to providing 4D experiences of smells along with sight. Welcome to the world of console VR—this is quite different from simply strapping smartphones to your head.

VR, in simple words, is a technique of recreating whatever you see or hear in an immersive 3D environment using various software and hardware. Movement of the body makes this experience much more immersive, and makes you think that you are interacting with the virtual environment.

Perception of viewing has been redefining the experiences by packing the best computing power to render graphics that are close to reality. Today, these are captivating, comfortable and affordable, and range from entry-level VR headsets made out of cardboard to ones that cost as much as high-end gaming consoles.

Back in the day, the whole unit had to be tethered to a powerful CPU or a supercomputer that packed a lot of graphic power. But today, the range of VR is between 45fps and 120fps, and this can be accomplished by the ever-growing number of smartphones with great hardware configuration.
