EB: What is the potential of the Indian LED lighting market?

The LED lighting market in India is growing at a furious pace. This has happened because of government-backed schemes like DELP and UJALA, as well as an awareness campaign by the power companies and the LED players on the direct and indirect benefits of the technology. Today, LED lighting is the undisputed leader—in fact, the only player in the lighting segment.

EB: What is your share in the Indian LED market?

To the best of our knowledge, the industry’s total installed capacity is approximately 30 million units. Our share is about 16 per cent of this. Since we are in both the B2B and B2C spaces, the numbers are quite substantial.

Our production capacity was at a level of 1 million pieces per month in 2014-15. A major expansion took place in 2015-16, after which our capacity rose to 3 million pieces per month and now, it stands at 5 million pieces per month, spread across three facilities in Noida and Roorkee.

EB: What are the major segments in which you operate?

We cater to almost all segments of LED lighting and have over 250 products across the residential, retail, commercial and industrial categories. This includes both indoor and outdoor lighting. In fact, we are quite strong in the street lighting segment as well. We have a comprehensive range that caters to almost any need—of either a project or the B2C segment. Our products are competitively priced across the segments that we operate in.

In addition, we supplied over 15 million bulbs to EESL for various government procurement schemes up to 2015-16—we were one of the leading suppliers during that period. We believe that, in the future, the demand is likely to increase in outdoor lighting and we are adding more products in this segment. Our streetlight portfolio is already very well developed.
