Today, there are more devices on our planet than human beings, which has created ample opportunities for cybercriminals to access and destroy critical information, extort money from unsuspecting victims through social engineering, and disrupt business by attacking systems.

People need to take precautions to ensure that their personal and confidential information is secure, and consumers must protect their personal information by only sharing it selectively. Personal information includes identity documents, driver’s licences, passports, addresses and contact details. In addition, confidential information like usernames, passwords and PIN numbers should never be shared.

Although the compromise of personal information creates opportunities for criminals to impersonate you, it does not guarantee access to your banking profile or accounts.
