Football 101

Total novice? Know this: “A game of football (soccer) is composed of two teams, each with 11 players – 10 field players and one goal keeper (the only player on the field that can use their hands),” explains Amy Jackson, midfielder for Melbourne City FC. Players mostly dribble the spherical ball (run with it at their feet), passing it to each other, with the aim of getting it around the opposition and past the goal keeper into the goal. They can’t use their hands or arms – from fingers to shoulders – to move the ball. Except when the ball crosses the sideline and leaves the field… then a player needs to throw it back in with both hands. Got it?
