Everything Indian and flavourful, Rasa is inspired by the decadently diverse and boundless food culture of India. The designer Aradhana Anand decided to refashion a key ingredient, the aromatic spices of India in collaboration with graphic designer Shweta Malhotra.
The range includes chairs, cushions, table mats and napkins; and features interesting motifs such as bay leaf, mustard seeds, tamarinds and star arise. Made of rubber wood, the designs have been screen printed by hand on 100 per cent cotton canvas. Sharing the challenges, Aradhana says, “To choose a theme within the broad landscape of India was difficult. Shweta and I worked our way through architecture, culture, food, landscape, to finally settled on the Indian spice.” This wasn’t the end. The designers also had to source high quality 100 per cent cotton canvas that was treated and print ready. “Printing was the longest process in creating this collection, since we used the placement print method where each product has a curated patch on the silk screen. This has helped in achieving a play on scale in a fun and more practical manner,” shares Aradhana.
