Design and Build Quality
The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 Contemporary lens has a compact design along with sturdy construction. The lens is predominantly built with engineering plastic, reinforced with metal. The lens mount is metal. Sigma provides a petal-shaped lens hood. The hood has a rubber ring at the base, providing the required grip to unmount easily.
Sigma declares that all Sigma Global Vision lenses are hand-crafted in a single factory in Aizu, Japan and individually inspected before shipping.
The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The lens that we received was for Sony E mount and it provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm on a Sony cropped sensor body. The lens uses a stepping motor for smooth autofocus, making it ideal for video capture. It also features Fast Hybrid AF of Sony E-mount cameras, making it still faster.
