Agnes martin and the many other inspirations of cos’ martin andersson.
GROWING UP in the rural Swedish town of Olofström, a teenage Martin Andersson would often ask his father to bring back British fashion magazines while away on business. Coupled with hours spent watching early MTV, an interest in the world not yet available quickly grew. Quite often the young boy would sketch the clothes he’d see, working alongside his mother, a seamstress, to make them into a reality. Afterward, he’d move on to another; Andersson has been searching for the next muse or beat nearly his whole life. It’s a desire that reveals a new collection inspired by the artist Agnes Martin today, and one that formed first from annual, month long trips with his mother and father as a child. “Even though I grew up in a small village, my eyes were open to the world at an early age,” Andersson recalls. “I remember traveling through Eastern Europe when I was five or six, down through desolate Romania.”
