It has been quite a disappointing season for French rally team Citroën total Abu Dhabi WRt and especially for their rally driver, Kris Meeke, who was going to be dropped by Citroën before the Catalunya rally. however, the British rally ace proved the sceptics wrong by winning the 11th round of the season, his second win in 2017.
Day one was quite intense, what with everyone from M-sport Ford’s sébastien Ogier and ott tänak to Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen, to Onebet JipoCar World Rally team’s Mads Østberg, and Citroën total Abu Dhabi WRt’s Kris Meeke fighting to finish on top to set a commanding pace for the remaining two days. at the beginning it seemed as if tänak or neuville would take the lead; however, by the end of day one, it was Mikkelsen who slipped into the lead, followed by ogier and Kris Meeke, both less than two seconds behind the Hyundai Motorsport rallyist.
Day two started with a bang for Kris Meeke, who won the opening stage and took the lead. after that, the Briton never looked back and continued to keep a consistent pace and maintain his lead throughout day two. by the end of the day, Meeke had a 13-second lead, giving him the ultimate advantage on the final day. however, he had championship leader sébastien Ogier on his tail, followed by the second M-sport Ford driver ott tänak.
