President of the Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation, G. Sambasiva Rao, talks about the progress-driven growth the city needs.
The Inception
Post bifurcation, a few like-minded and development-driven industrial leaders sat together and took the decision to have an independent Chamber for Andhra Pradesh. The Vijayawada Chamber, which was a local entity till then, upgraded to become the AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation. With that as the headquarters, and for ease of administration, the entity was further divided into three zones of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur.
With G Sambasiva Rao leading as the President of all three zones, today there are about 850 members in the State Chamber. This is a number that is on the rise and has made the AP Chamber a power to reckon with.
The Role
“There is strength in unity,” he shares “and the voice of manufacturers, industrialists and entrepreneurs together as one strong body will ensure the State’s progress”.
He adds that it also enables that the policy makers include them in decision making, and the entity can offer development-driven guidance. For example, when the recent proposal on industrial policies for parks came up, the AP Chamber could ask for better land conversion charges and even suggest waivers for VLT, and plan approval charges for entrepreneurs. He also stresses on the need for a better infrastructure through which, investment opportunities into the state will come more readily, and it will be easier to eliminate corruption and improve ease of doing business.
