AFTER A YEAR OF #METOO HEADLINES, IT APPEARS BROADCAST TV is attempting to do right by women this development season by finally making them boss—at least on camera. Scores of drama and comedy pilots made by ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and The CW revolve around strong female characters. (Whether they actually make it to the fall lineup depends on what happens next month in New York, when the networks set their 2019–20 schedules and reveal them to advertisers.)
