For Leon Logothetis, it was a stunning moment of clarity. Disillusioned and frustrated, the former London broker had quit his job in search of a more meaningful life. As he walked down L.A.’s Hollywood Boulevard in February 2013, a sign— scrawled in black marker on the back of a cardboard box—caught his eye. “This homeless chap was holding it,” recalls Logothetis, 42. “It read, ‘Kindness is the best medicine.’ Something about those words rammed straight into me. It was an epiphany.”
