<p>I&rsquo;ve probably gotten the most attention for the looks I&rsquo;ve put on Cher over the years, but the dress I made for Sharon Stone to wear in Casino will always have a special place in my heart. The costume designers working on the movie needed something really jazzy for Sharon for a scene with Robert De Niro, and when they explained that her character, Ginger, was this glamorous, show-offy kind of girl who was married to a Vegas gangster, I knew which of my designs would do the trick. I had been working on a collection inspired by California at the time, and since we&rsquo;re known for our wine over here, I created a gown that was made completely of sheer tulle and embroidered with these spectacular gold grapes that had to be placed very strategically. I immediately had it boxed up to bring to Sharon on set, and not only did she love it, but it fit her like a glove. It was made from only one layer of netting, so she had to go absolutely naked under it, which was fine because, let&rsquo;s face it, her character wasn&rsquo;t the classiest broad around. Still, until I saw the film, I had no idea how amazing and iconic the dress would turn out to be on her. I kept the original sketch of it [above] in my archives, but the actual dress was auctioned off at Christie&rsquo;s a few years ago, so somebody else owns it now. They&rsquo;d better make sure they&rsquo;re well-groomed, because to wear a dress like this you can&rsquo;t be a shrinking violet or a withered grape.</p>
