The Story Of Reese

REESE WITHERSPOON: I know I told you this before, Dolly, but I’ve never told this to a magazine: When I was probably 5 years old, I wanted to be Dolly Parton. I was skipping around the blacktop at school by myself, and my P.E. teacher said, “Why aren’t you playing the game [with the other kids]?” I said, “Well, I’m not going to play the game because, Ms. Wright, I’m going to be Dolly Parton when I grow up.” You were such a big inspiration to me. I loved country music, and I thought you stood for so many things. You were a beautiful storyteller. And you made me feel proud about being from a place that other people made fun of. I wanted to be like you—and I still do.
