Dhruv Chadha was often kept out of the football field or squash court for not wearing appropriate footwear. The lifelong frustration of not being able to find shoes his size was the genesis of the business, Jupiter Shop. “Realising that there are innumerable others who suffer from the same problem, I decided that I’m going to provide an effective solution,” the founder of the retail outlet informs S&A.
It is interesting that a retail outlet like Jupiter is in India. What encouraged you to take the decision? A lifelong frustration of not being able to find shoes my size has been the genesis of the business. After completing my bachelor’s in management studies, I initially started working with my farther in our family owned business of manufacturing steel bars and rods for industrial purpose. Working there for close to fifteen years, I gained practical knowledge and experience in business development, sales, client acquisition and the day to day operations.
Ever since 10th grade I’ve been struggling to find an appropriate pair of shoes. I was often kept out of the football field or squash court for not wearing appropriate footwear. Even later on, during college days I faced challenges getting the right pair of shoe for a formal class presentation. Back in those days, I managed by ordering big size shoes from the U.S.A and stocked them at home. Soon enough as word spread, I also started ordering shoes for friends, neighbours and other family members facing similar issues. Realising that there are innumerable others who suffer from the same problem, I decided that I’m going to provide an effective solution. Thus, this is how the idea of Jupitershop. com was shaped in 2013.
Give us an overview of the plus-sized market in India in terms of size and how underrated it is.
