The latest dermatologist-backed innovation: a multi-wavelength LED device that lights up home skin care.
Inside Marmur Medical’s second outpost, located on a buttoned-up stretch of Park Avenue, a neon sign announces mm2 in glowing purple. It’s not the message that catches my eye but the medium. Light is exactly why I’ve come to see dermatologist Ellen Marmur, M.D., this afternoon. Ever since researchers at NASA demonstrated the benefits of light-emitting diode therapy for wound repair, noninvasive treatments using targeted wavelengths have migrated from the fringes of medicine right into high-profile doctors’ practices. I’m not here for an in office experience, however. I’m here to pick up a prototype of Marmur’s home LED device—the MMSphere, slated to launch this fall pending FDA clearance. Picture a futuristic doughnut, about a foot in diameter, that can cycle through a rave-worthy rainbow of light. “If Apple met Dyson, that would be my MMSphere,” says Marmur, 49.
