How This Quaint Valley In Arunachal Pradesh - Is Fighting With Pollution

For years, the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh existed on maps but it could be safe to say that it did not really exist in the minds of people from other parts of the country. Over the years, the trends have changed, and this part of the country is now being explored in the name of ‘tourism’.

This State, the largest among all the Northeastern states has recorded an increase in tourist footfall since 2015. It is now quite popular for its natural beauty which includes scenic hills and valleys, landscapes that turn white with snow during winter, prominent monasteries, unfamiliar passes and lakes at high altitudes.

For travel enthusiasts, there are many places in the State that are worth visiting such as Tawang which witnesses a large number of tourists every year. But there are also other places that are unheard of and are slowly emerging as tourism hotspots. One such place is Sangti Valley, near Dirang on the Bomdila-Tawang highway in the West Kameng district.

Sangti, a quaint valley, about 7-8km from the Dirang market is nestled in the eastern Himalayan ranges. It is covered with dense forests and dotted with fruit orchards. At the valley, one would notice the enormous mountains on one side and the gushing Sangti River on the other. One can spend their days and nights listening to the sound of the flowing river.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS

People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
