Ashwin once again was at his best in India’s recent 3-Test series against New Zealand. The off-spinner grabbed 28 wickets...
It is fascinating to watch Ravichandran Ashwin bowl. The loop. The twirl. The revolutions he generates on the ball. The confidence that reflects on his face as he gears up. All of it makes for a captivating viewing experience. The way Ashwin works out batsmen is even more engrossing. One can almost feel his mind working like a computer as he seizes up the likes of AB De Villiers and Kane Williamson and then gradually overcomes them with some of his unplayable deliveries.
It is hence no wonder that today the of spinner from India is being considered the best spin bowler in the world at present and many feel he may well go on to be one of the all-time best bowlers in the sport. And why shouldn’t he be? Ashwin’s exploits, especially in the longest format of the game, has been just incredible these past few years. He is now the No.1 Test bowler and No.1 all-rounder in ICC’s rankings. A feat that is rare and one that Indians should take real pride on.
From being a good spinner, Ashwin has transformed completely into a champion bowler who can conquer any batsman in the world. He has emerged as India’s premiere bowler and is the reason why India has been doing so well in Tests recently.
After helping India accomplish series victories against Sri Lanka, South Africa and the West Indies in the past few months, Ashwin once again was at his best in India’s recent 3-Test series against New Zealand at home. The off-spinner grabbed 28 wickets at an average of 17.77 with three 5-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket match hauls. His 7-59 in the last Test at Indore were his career-best figures.
