Chocolatier couple Nitin and Poonam Chordia are in an unusual line of work - chocolate tasting and making. Read on to find out what Nitin says about their work and passion for chocolate.
Poonam and Nitin Chordia are known as the pioneers in the industry of fine chocolates in India. Being the fist certified chocolate tasting couple in India, they have their own brand of fine chocolates ‘Cocoatrait’, and their own academy - ‘Cocoashala’ - where they give training in making fine chocolates. Indulging in this sweet profession, this chocolatier couple are making it big in their industry.
How did you get into this unique profession of chocolate tasting?
While being associated with Godrej Nature’s Basket in 2006/7 as a lead implementation consultant, I had an opportunity to witness the rise of wine appreciation very closely. I was responsible of sourcing food products from across the globe. I stumbled upon a few fine chocolate brands which were making their way into the global marketplace with clear product differentiation. After a point, I realised that I need to equip myself better to understand the product. Hence, I decided to reverse engineer. My real journey started at this juncture and I decided to pursue the chocolate tasting course so that I can first understand the nuances of the final product.
What inspired you to introduce the concept of fine chocolate production and consumption in India?
