The widening gap between the rich and the poor grew even wider in 2018, and unless governments take action, things will get worse.
A report published in January by the development charity Oxfam showed that the bottom half of humanity became poorer by 11 per cent in 2018, while the world’s 2,200 billionaires grew 12 per cent richer. The non-profit’s data showed that the top 10 per cent of the world’s population are now holding 85 per cent of the planet’s wealth, with a new billionaire created every two days.
