Ben Davies loves to fish one of South Wales’ best blonde ray marks, known as the Sand Spit, adjacent to Saint Mary Wells Bay in Sully, and the popular venue came up trumps on a recent visit.

Ben picked a big tide of 14.6 metres Barry scale and, given settled weather, it was perfect conditions. However, he advises caution on this popular mark.

“Getting down there as the spit is uncovered can catch the unwary. The tide here is deadly on the flood because you can get cut off easily if you’re not watching behind you, especially after dark. Always fish as a pair if you can because it helps with landing fish and generally keeping safe.”
