Reignite Your Passion For Life By Picking Up A Hobby Or Two
Her World Malaysia|July 2019

It’s been a long week at work, dealing with clients and attending meetings? When was the last time you mindlessly browsed through social media just to let off steam? It’s time to reignite your passion for life by picking up a hobby or two.

THE ART OF BALANCE

1 KNOW WHEN TO… LET GO OF PERFECTIONISM

Having a perfectionist mindset that tolerates no flaws may make one a high achiever. But as Jojo Struys, a wellness coach and the founder of OhanaJo Studio explains, as much as the world needs perfectionists who strive to be the best they can be and deliver exemplary results, such demands can get in the way of one’s wellbeing. At the very worst, it can lead to a mental breakdown. “Perfectionism can become out of reach and destructive,” notes Dr Marilyn Puder-York in her book The Office Survival Guide. A healthier option that’s probably more productive in the long-run is to do your best to accomplish a job, instead of rushing after perfection.

2 KNOW WHEN TO… UNPLUG

Ever jolt awake in the middle of the night to check your phone, just in case an important message has come through? Gadgets have become entrenched in our lives so rapidly over the years that they’re now ubiquitous. “People need to unplug not just from work but also their mobile phones, so they don’t lose the connection or quality time to be present with those around them. It’s all about balance,” advises Jojo. Switching off your devices isn’t synonymous with neglecting work. Rather, it’s about knowing when to create personal boundaries. Make time for your mind to mentally recharge and reset before starting another hectic day.

3 KNOW WHEN TO… SAY NO
