Sugar & Spice… And All Things Nice

Sweets and mithai are a major part of Asian culture, especially where a celebration is concerned. You may already have distributed boxes of delicious treats to friends and family after the announcement of your engagement, will be serving them after your wedding ceremony and again, sending them as thank you gifts. But this is just a flavor of how sweets can be incorporated into weddings. Here I explain a bit more about the role of sweets and how to serve them.

How much is too much?

Couples often ask me if they should have a wedding cake and dessert and I generally advise yes, as they fulfill two different purposes. Your cake cutting ceremony is an iconic moment and one that is a big part of your wedding day. Although the cake is served to guests many couples observe the tradition of keeping one tier to themselves to eat on their anniversary. Dessert, on the other hand, isn’t about cake, it’s about being able to enjoy a sweeter dish after the main meal and is usually something that compliments and isn’t too heavy. Dessert is commonly served with tea and even with petit fours, like a plate of handmade chocolates.
