Fashion Comeback
Essex Life|September 2017

As Essex Life magazine celebrates 65 years, what better time to look at the current catwalk trends for autumn/winter 2017 which take their inspiration from the last 65 years

Fashion Comeback

SOME WOULD SAY fashion has always been trapped in a love affair with the past. The truth is that history is the greatest teacher and maybe even the best innovator.

This autumn/winter 2017 season, we are witnessing plenty of unforgettable trends that are making a comeback, seeing every era get a catwalk airing. But it is the 1970s which is definitely the frontrunner in terms of retro influence this season.

Switch out those vibrant shades of pink in favour of the ‘it’ colour of this season — luxury blues from turquoise, dusky to navy. Remember blue is very ultra-modern for this decade, while respecting the rules of 1950s elegance. Embrace this stylish shade as a full look or burst of colour, which will certainly electrify any wardrobe during the darker, moody months.

However, you may not be quite ready for the autumn/winter season just yet (was that really summer?). Many of our trendy collectable pieces have barely made it out of the wardrobe with this unpredictable weather. But fear not, the beautiful, fluted-style dresses are still on trend for another season.

This go-anywhere dress is ideal for elegant daywear to float into evenings out, with a touch of 1960s chic and elements of 70s flair.

A perfect example of this trend comes from stylish boutique Fanny and Frank in Saffron Walden, which is stocking the stunning Ottod’ame, a casual chic Italian made women’s clothing brand. According to the Essex boutique: ‘Ottod’ame brings out the very best of the 1970s, and let’s face it, the 1970s did have a style bypass! We are delighted to see that soft flow of sumptuous fabrics giving us a totally romantic feel.
