Small Delights Of Daily Life

The humble straw that tickles you to laughter is an instrument of happiness! So many other small insignificant things and happenings which we let go unnoticed deprive us of happiness which comes like a breath of fresh air and pass away.

Andre Marvois in his engrossing and highly instructive book, Art of Living gives an excellent illustration. A retired army officer was surrounded and complimented by numerous fans. Most praised him for the battles he had won for his country. The records that one of his admirers complimented him for the baneful scarf he was wearing which had been gifted to him by his wife. He cherished this small present more than the several banal compliments about battles won.

Unexpected bits of good luck similarly tickle us to happiness like the humble straw. My wife and I had gone to a public park. On our way back, we discovered that she had lost her wedding ring. We went back to the park, groped and found the ring. Luck is not always hostile!
