Digging through black-and-white photos and old letters has always sparked excitement in Linda Allen, who has spent the past decade investigating her family history.
But the mother-of-five uncovered more than she bargained for when the family discovered a secret sibling in Austria – a result of her father’s time serving in WWII.
“It was a huge shock,” Linda tells Woman’s Day.
“We’d always joked to Dad about European brothers and sisters, but we never thought it was actually true.”
The 66-year-old says her father, Finlay John Campbell, used to enjoy sharing his war stories.
