My career Having no qualifications and getting people to trust my brain rather than my hands was hard – I was a van driver, a labourer and a greengrocer. People say, ‘How can you be a judge on MasterChef if you’re not a chef?’ but they never ask that of the restaurant critics. I think that’s because my voice is common. I’ve never wanted to be a chef – I want to pay my bills.
