Going for gold

Stencil cushions

You will need

  • Plain cushion covers in grey or cream

  • Piece of old cardboard

  • Stencil

  • Low-tack spray adhesive

  • Metallic fabric paint

  • Paint palette

  • Stencil brush

  • Kitchen paper towel

  • Iron and ironing board

How to do it

1 Take a cushion cover and slot a piece of old cardboard inside. Position the card underneath where you want your motif to be.

2 Spray the back of your chosen stencil with a low-tack adhesive, and stick the template in place on the front of the cushion.

3 Decant a little metallic fabric paint into a palette or saucer and dip in a stencil brush. Dab the brush on some kitchen paper towel to remove excess paint, then dab through the stencil to transfer the design.

4 Add more layers of paint, and leave to dry, before removing the stencil and setting the paint with a hot iron.

Trinket bowl

You will need

  • Masking tape

  • Pebeo Gilding Paste, £5.50, Hobbycraft
