From Mrs Hinch to Marie Kondo, wherever you look people are telling us how to scale back our lives and keep our homes in tip-top condition. Apparently, we should be striving for shiny chrome surfaces, minimal clutter and neatly folded clothes. We’re to toss anything that doesn’t ‘spark joy’. And when it comes to our wardrobes, we should be avoiding fast fashion and keepingonly pieces that’ll stand the test of time and be reworn over and again.
The latest trend comes from feng shui consultant Mary Lambert, who says we should all be downsizing our personal possessions to just 100 items. In her book, The Joy of Living with Less, she explains how you can ‘liberate your life’ by decluttering. Theoretically, that sounds great. Who hasn’t bemoaned the lack of storage in their home, or wedged shut a cupboard door to hide the mess and clutter inside?
